Away from the desk
A little about life outside client work
Some clients prefer to keep things entirely professional, while others enjoy getting to know the person behind the work. Both approaches suit me just fine.
Working independently means no account manager, no layers of communication and no corporate formality for the sake of it. You’re working with a person, not a faceless agency. Whether that’s strictly business or a catch-up over a coffee or a game of padel is entirely up to you.
So you know a bit more about the person behind the accounts, here are a few photos from my personal life.
Always reaching for the top.

Started off in tech at a young age
As you can see, I started off in tech at a young age. Navigating floppy disks and joysticks, and getting into Windows from MS-DOS.

Still playing into my early 40s
I'm still playing football into my early 40s, even if it's only five-a-side these days.

I love running
Running is one of my favourite ways to clear my head. In May 2026 I ran my first half marathon, the AJ Bell Birmingham Half Marathon, with my left Achilles heavily strapped, and came in just one minute short of two hours.
I've written more about it, and about how training keeps me motivated as a freelancer, in this Digital Briefing post.

From Eurocamps to the Americas
Travel has been part of my life since I was a kid. Most summers were spent in the back of the car with my brothers and parents, crossing the Channel by P&O ferry, hovercraft or SeaCat (yes, I'm that old) on the way to Eurocamps across France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain.
My Brazilian wife and I have been together for almost 20 years, and married for over 10. With her and our two young children, I've visited Brazil a number of times, along with Mexico and other parts of the Americas.
The Berlin photos were taken the day before a conference, sightseeing around the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall.

Winter holidays, particularly in Austria
Winter holidays are a favourite of mine, particularly in Austria, a country I first got to know on those childhood Eurocamp trips. Fresh snow, mountain air and a summit to aim for are hard to beat.

Days out and holidays with the family
Most of my free time is spent with my wife and our two children, whether that's a holiday, a day trip or a walk around a National Trust property.
Being in Rugby, right in the middle of the country, helps. The Cotswolds and the Peak District are both close enough for a full day out and back home the same evening.
Music runs in the family
I grew up with music in my blood. My mother graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and had a career as a professional soprano, performing in concerts across Europe, as well as working as a vocal coach, both privately and at the prestigious Rugby School. My father is also musically talented, so music was always part of home life.
My own taste is eclectic, running from 80s and 90s classics and classic rock to nu metal, pop, dance and house music, R&B, Latin, classical and new age music.

Graduation day at Cheltenham Racecourse
I graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2008 with a degree in Strategic Business Management, with the ceremony held at Cheltenham Racecourse.
The course included lots of marketing modules, and those were the ones that set me on my current pathway. From there I went straight into sports marketing at Goodform, working on The FA account, and later into digital marketing, the discipline I have worked in ever since.
