Are you new to pay per click (PPC), and require support to get up and running, and your business visible? Perhaps you already have an existing ads campaign that just isn’t generating the right traffic, or leads.

Owain is Google Ads Certified, and has over 15 years PPC experience, working at top digital agencies in London and the Midlands. Owain has managed PPC campaigns for blue chip enterprise clients as well as for hundreds of small to medium sized businesses within a range of sectors.

The approach

My approach to PPC campaign management

An initial three month plan, then ongoing management. No account handover once the work is won.

01 · First

Understand the target

As a Google Ads Specialist, I work initially with you to understand your core demographic, targets and desired return on investment (ROI) from paid advertising.

02 · Then

The three month plan

I support by formulating an initial three month plan, inclusive of strategy, keyword research, competitor analysis as well as understanding your key (core) demographic.

03 · Ongoing

Management, which is critical

As an experienced PPC consultant I support with the management of your campaigns, ensuring that budget is pacing within bounds, and KPI’s across your website are being achieved.

What it covers

What the management actually involves

The work behind the plan, month to month.

01

Keyword research

Finding the searches worth paying for, and the ones worth excluding.

02

Competitor analysis

Who else is bidding, on what, and where the gaps are.

03

Campaign build and structure

Accounts built so budget can be controlled and results can be read.

04

Budget pacing

Spend kept within bounds, month on month, with no end-of-month surprises.

05

Conversion tracking and KPIs

Measuring what happens after the click, so the reporting reflects the business.

06

Ongoing optimisation

Bids, ad copy, audiences and landing pages, revisited rather than left running.

A result

Over double the revenue, year on year

Chart showing PPC revenue more than doubling against the previous year
Over double the revenue generated through PPC year on year, a huge achievement for ecommerce fashion brand aden+anais. aden+anais sells muslin swaddles, sleeping bags and nursery textiles. The buyers are new and expectant parents, alongside the friends and family shopping for baby showers and new arrivals, so demand is both seasonal and heavily gift-driven. The growth shown here came mainly through Google Shopping, getting the right product in front of the right person at the moment they were ready to buy.

Before you appoint anyone

Looking for freelance PPC services? Six things to be aware of

Worth asking of me, or of anyone else you are considering.

01

Who owns the account

The Google Ads account should be registered in your name, with you as the owner. If it sits inside someone else’s manager account and you cannot be granted admin access, you cannot take your own history with you when you leave.

02

How the fee is charged

A percentage of ad spend rewards whoever manages it for spending more of your money. An hourly or fixed fee separates the cost of the management from the size of the budget, so the advice stays honest.

03

Whether tracking exists yet

If conversions are not tracked properly before launch, nobody can tell which clicks earned their money. Ask what will be measured, and how, before any budget goes live.

04

Who actually does the work

Ask who will be in the account day to day. With a freelancer that question has one answer. Work out early whether the person you are impressed by in the meeting is the person doing the optimisation.

05

What the reporting covers

Impressions and clicks are activity, not results. Reporting should tie back to leads, sales or revenue, and should say what changed and why, not just what happened.

06

How long you are tied in

Long minimum terms protect the supplier, not you. A short notice period keeps the relationship earning its place every month.

Questions

Freelance PPC services, answered

What people ask before handing over an ads account.

How much do freelance PPC services cost?

Management is charged by the hour from £70, separately from your advertising budget. You are told in advance roughly how many hours a month the account needs, and you see where that time went. Charging this way keeps the fee independent of your spend, so there is never an incentive to recommend a bigger budget than the account can use.

Do I need to commit to a long-term contract?

There is no lengthy tie-in. Involvement can be scaled up or down as your priorities change, which suits businesses with seasonal demand or a fixed project in mind.

Who owns the Google Ads account?

You do. The account stays in your ownership throughout, along with its history, and access can be handed back at any point. That matters more than it sounds: the account history is what informs future bidding.

Can you take over an existing Google Ads account?

Yes, and it is the more common starting point. The first step is usually an audit of what is currently running, so you get a clear read on structure, wasted spend and tracking before anything is changed.

What do you need to get started?

Initially just a picture of the business, the website, your objectives and anything you are already running. If we go ahead I will confirm which platforms I need access to, typically Google Ads, Google Analytics, Search Console and your website CMS.

Which platforms do you manage?

Google Ads across search, shopping and remarketing, which is where most budgets belong. Microsoft Advertising and paid social where they genuinely earn a place. If a second platform would only spread the budget thinner, I will say so.

How soon will I see results?

Paid search delivers traffic immediately, but the first three months are about learning what converts. Expect early signal within weeks and a settled, optimised account by the end of the initial plan.

Why choose a freelance PPC consultant over an agency?

You get direct access to the person managing the account, with over 15 years of agency-side experience behind it, and without the account management layer in between. Fewer people, less overhead, and the same person in the account every month.

Do you work with businesses outside the UK?

Yes. I am Midlands based and work remotely with clients in the UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and the USA, across a range of international markets and time zones.
