Owain has worked with hundreds of small to medium size businesses on improving their search engine optimisation (SEO) performance. A critical part of determining just how to approach any SEO management comes in the shape of an initial SEO audit. This first step is critical to assessing just how much work is involved in developing organic growth for your brand and online visibility for a variety of search terms.

Are you an established business struggling to compete online, or perhaps a startup looking for a headstart with developing your month on month organic website traffic. Owain has over a decade of SEO experience, gained predominantly agency side; where he has worked on large-scale SEO projects for reputable brands. He also works tirelessly to support small to medium size businesses.

Owain works on a freelance basis; so his rates are highly competitive over typical hourly rates charged by a traditional SEO agency. Working remotely, he has clients all across the country, from Gloucestershire, Cambridgeshire and Oxfordshire, to Wiltshire, Herefordshire and Hertfordshire.

There are more acronyms in search now than there have ever been. SEO, GEO, AEO, LLMO, and a new one seems to arrive every quarter. It is worth being honest about what sits underneath them.

Language models and AI answer panels read the same web that search engines do. If a page is crawlable, properly structured, marked up correctly and genuinely answers the question being asked, then it is available to be picked up, indexed and cited. That is the whole mechanism.

So the approach does not change much: answer real queries plainly, put the FAQ content on the page rather than burying it, mark it up so machines can parse it, and earn citations from places that already carry weight. Authority is built, not declared, and it is what turns a mention into a recommendation.

For smaller businesses the priority is usually closer to home. Local visibility, a Google Business Profile that is actually complete, consistent details across the directories that matter, and reviews that keep arriving. Those tend to move the needle faster than chasing national rankings.

The approach

How the consultancy works

An audit first, then a prioritised plan, then the work. Nothing starts until we both know where the opportunity actually is.

01 · First

Audit and diagnosis

Crawl, indexation, site speed, structure, existing rankings and what your competitors are doing better. The point is to find what is genuinely holding the site back rather than producing a 90-page report.

02 · Then

A prioritised plan

Keyword and query research, content gaps, technical fixes and local visibility, ordered by what will shift things soonest against the effort involved.

03 · Ongoing

Execution and reporting

Implementation alongside your team or your developers, with reporting that shows movement in rankings, traffic and enquiries rather than vanity metrics.

What it covers

The work itself

Eight areas, weighted to whatever your site needs most.

01

Technical SEO

Crawlability, indexation, site architecture, Core Web Vitals and the render issues that quietly cost you visibility.

02

Keyword and query research

What people actually type and ask, including the longer conversational queries that AI answers are built from.

03

On-page content and FAQs

Pages that answer the question directly, with FAQ content on the page where it can be read, parsed and cited.

04

Structured data and schema

Markup that tells search engines and language models what a page is and what it answers, rather than leaving them to guess.

05

Local SEO and citations

Google Business Profile, consistent name, address and phone details across directories, and the local citations that support them.

06

Authority and reputation

Earning links and mentions from sources that already carry weight, which is what makes a brand quotable rather than merely present.

07

Analytics and tracking

Analytics, Search Console and conversion tracking set up so the reporting reflects the business rather than the dashboard.

08

Migrations and rebuilds

Protecting rankings through a site move or redesign, which is the point at which most hard-won visibility gets lost.

Questions

SEO, answered plainly

What people ask before commissioning search work.

How much does freelance SEO cost?

Consultancy is charged by the hour from £70. You are told in advance roughly how many hours a month the work needs, and you see where that time went. There is no retainer minimum and no lengthy tie-in.

Will SEO get my business into AI answers and LLM results?

Largely, yes, and not through a separate discipline. Language models and AI answer panels read the same web everyone else does. If a page is crawlable, well structured, marked up correctly and genuinely answers the question being asked, it is available to be cited. Clear FAQ content, proper schema markup and a site that loads and renders cleanly do most of the work.

What about GEO and AEO?

Generative Engine Optimisation and Answer Engine Optimisation are useful shorthand for where visibility is heading, but in practice the work overlaps heavily with good SEO: answer real questions plainly, structure the page so machines can parse it, and earn citations from places that already have authority.

Do you work with SMEs or only larger businesses?

Both. A good deal of the work is with small and medium sized businesses, where local visibility often matters more than national rankings. Getting the Google Business Profile right, keeping name, address and phone consistent across directories, and building local citations frequently moves the needle faster than anything else.

How long does SEO take to show results?

Technical fixes can show within weeks. Content and authority building are slower, typically three to six months before the trend is clear. Anyone promising rankings in a fortnight is selling something else.

Can you audit my existing site before we commit to anything?

Yes. An initial look over the site, the analytics and where you currently rank costs nothing and takes a short call. You will get an honest read on whether there is enough opportunity to justify the spend.

Do you work with businesses outside the UK?

Yes. Alongside UK clients across London, Gloucestershire, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Herefordshire, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire, there is ongoing work in Brussels, Stuttgart, Schaffhausen, Zakynthos, Tuscany, Londrina and the United States.
