The Runnymede on Thames: digital marketing for a luxury riverside hotel

I worked with The Runnymede on Thames as part of my work with UP Hotel Agency, who designed the hotel’s website, on boosting awareness and direct bookings for the hotel. Just the kind of digital marketing for luxury hotels I provide. The hotel sits on the banks of the River Thames in Egham, Surrey, minutes from Windsor, and attracted a lot of families thanks to its proximity to LEGOLAND Windsor and other attractions, while still being a luxury hotel. I worked closely with their Head of Marketing at the time, Andrew Duggan.

Direct bookings, by the river

Key events

01Brand protection and generic campaigns

A blend of brand protection and competitive generic Google Ads (PPC) campaigns boosted direct bookings by 15% over two years, and took the average cost per acquisition down to 9%. That is great, considering OTA commissions can be 20% and upwards on room night bookings.

02Organic growth

I also worked on the organic side of the business, boosting visits to the site. It worked really well, with a 21% year on year rise in organic traffic from new pages created and existing pages optimised much better.

03Key event windows

A big part of the strategy was securing bookings around key event windows for the hotel, for families visiting LEGOLAND Windsor and other nearby attractions as well as guests looking for a luxury stay by the river.

04Where they are now

The hotel is now part of Warner Hotels, as Reserve by Warner Hotels, The Runnymede on Thames.

Next step

Paying too much in OTA commission?

A thirty minute call is usually enough to see where PPC and SEO can bring in more direct bookings, for less than the OTAs charge.
